Meet the Captain

Captain David Schaeffer is a third generation river rat, born and raised on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River and has over 20 years of experience. He is a very qualified US Merchant Marine Officer possessing a 100 Ton Master's License authorized by the United States Coast Guard for western rivers and inland waterways.

Captain David's friends started calling him by his nickname "Huckleberry" in high school, and his closest friends still do today. Hence, Huckleberry seemed an appropriate name for the boat.

The Huckleberry is a 30ft by 12ft fiberglass Island Hopper powered by a new Caterpillar 3126 350 Horsepower engine. She cruises at 28 knots, is insured and Coast Guard inspected and certified for 18 passengers.
